Honoring the Artist in the Heart of Kyiv

On August 1, 2023, a memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of the House of National Creative Associations of Ukraine at 50–52 Taras Shevchenko Boulevard. The plaque honors the legacy of Olha Rapai-Markish, a distinguished Ukrainian sculptor and ceramist, whose monumental ceramic panels still adorn this building in the very center of the capital.

The ceremony was attended by prominent art historians, publishers, artists, actors, theater directors, filmmakers who personally knew the artist, as well as her relatives and colleagues.

The memorial plaque stands as a symbol of the official recognition of Rapai-Markish’s artistic legacy within Kyiv’s cultural landscape. It marks a poignant return of her presence into the city’s collective memory, further amplified by the context of the space where her works remain on view.

This event was not only a commemorative act but also a powerful cultural gesture — a bridge across time, connecting Olha Rapai-Markish’s creativity with the contemporary artistic context, and restoring the link between today’s city and its history.
