10 years later: the discovery of Zoe Lerman's missing masterpieces

Exactly 10 years ago, in May 2008, the book "The World of Zoe Lerman" (published by "Spirit and Letter", translated by Selim Yalkut, illustrated by Pavlo Fishel) was published, created based on the legendary Ukrainian artist's own story and the memories of her friends and colleagues.

The presentation took place at the Museum of Contemporary Fine Arts of Ukraine and was timed to coincide with the opening of Zoe Naumovna's solo exhibition - one of the last during her lifetime. It was in this publication that the announcement of the disappearance of several paintings by the master was published.

And now, after a decade, five of the six works that were considered lost all these years ("Georgian", "Acrobats", "Portrait of a Friend", "Night Scene", "Grandmother") returned to the artist's family collection.

Zoya Lerman's son, Kyiv painter Oleksandr Lutskevich, informed the editorial office of "Antikvar". The works were discovered and transferred free of charge to the author's heirs by one of the Kyiv collectors.

Zoya Lerman (June 14, 1934 - January 1, 2014) was born in Kyiv. In 1959, she graduated from the Kyiv State Art Institute. Since 1960, she has been a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine, a participant in republican, all-Union and foreign exhibitions. The works are kept in the collections of the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Museum of Contemporary Fine Arts of Ukraine, the Directorate of Art Exhibitions of the National Art Museum of Ukraine, private collections in the USA, Israel, and European countries.
